Is This For Me?

This two-week immersive retreat is designed for emerging and established artists ready to deepen their creative practice through embodied exploration. Rooted in circus arts, movement, and sacred clowning, this program offers rigorous training, mentorship, and artistic inquiry — aimed at enhancing your personal expression and professional development.

Whether you're a circus artist, dancer, actor, interdisciplinary performer, or curious beginner, this retreat invites you to explore new physical vocabularies, challenge creative limits, and reconnect with your artistic voice.

This retreat is for you if:

  • You are seeking structured time and space to evolve your artistic process

  • You want to train in circus arts and performance disciplines, with expert guidance and individualized feedback

  • You’re working toward a new creation or body of work, and need physical research, play, or inspiration

  • You value cross-disciplinary exploration as a way to unlock creative insight

  • You are preparing for, or are currently involved in professional artistic projects or residencies

  • You would benefit from one-on-one mentorship from working artists and facilitators

  • You are eligible and/or interested in applying for professional development grants (such as those offered by the Canada Council for the Arts)

  • You’re excited to invest in your craft alongside a supportive, like-minded cohort

  • As a bonus: this all unfolds in a beachfront setting, surrounded by a vibrant community of rad humans.

If you’re wondering whether this is the right next step in your artistic journey,

Lead Facilitator

Marlene Mariposa

Co-founder of Apapacho Circus of the Soul based in Mexico City. An artistic circus company with the intention of embracing from the soul through art and sharing the passion for creative expression.

I began dancing at the age of 10 and discovered that dance would give meaning to my life. At 12, I discovered drama and was faced with the infinite possibilities of creating characters, stories, and adventures from scratch, and I learned the game of emotions. At 23, I was amazed to see aerial dance as the path to transformation in my life and the metamorphosis of my being. Since then, I have dedicated myself to learning, raising awareness, creating, performing, teaching, accompanying, guiding, and sharing as a dancer, circus artist, teacher, and choreographer in Mexico and other countries.

I have participated as an artist with companies such as Circo Atayde Hermanos, Humani Corp, Flip Circo; as a teacher at PilateSalud, Casa de Artes y Circo, and Momentom Collective. I have participated in social circus programs in Mexico and Nicaragua. I have participated in festivals such as Cosmic Coverage in Guatemala and the Nenemi Festival in San Salvador.

As a teacher, generations of my students who began with me in Aerial Dance in Mexico are now professional circus artists, graduates of schools such as the Circus School in Belgium, world champions in Aerial Hoop competitions, founders of companies, performers in major shows in Mexico, and masters of various aerial techniques.
